TreeHugger "Waste of Packaging" Contest
by Sean Fisher, Cincinnati, Ohio on 02. 1.06
Most of us have, at one time or another, bought something and opened it only to sift through layer upon layer of unnecessary packaging. Not only is this incredibly annoying, the excess material used takes energy and resources to create and obviously creates more "junk" we simply dispose of. We are looking to you to show us some of this over-packaging and give us your solutions this month in our "Waste of Packaging" Contest. Here's the deal: Keep an eye out in the supermarket, on the streets, and even in your own cabinets for unTreeHugger packaging. When you spot it, snap a picture and tell us what it is and what could be done to make the packaging a little greener. Send the entry to: contest [at] treehugger [dot] com by Monday, February 20th for your chance to win a $250 gift certificate from the green retailer re:modern. As usual, the top entries will be featured on the site and the winner will be chosen via reader voting. Good luck!

Just wanted to ask if the deadline is for February 20, 2006 instead of January 20?
Ha! Good eyes, yes it is 2/20 and not 1/20. Thanks for the heads up!
Dumb question: is that midnight, 2/20 or midnight 2/19? My friend got back from Iraq today, and in all honesty I stopped giving a crap about the environment for 18 hours. Marines are biodegradable, so you have to enjoy them while they last!
Perhaps for the next contest: www.smartpakcanine.com. individually packaged servings of dog food in a plastic container.
Hey. Can you mention our contest? It is kinda funny... In honor of National Underwear Day, Campus Men is offering a Male Underwear Packaging Contest to encourage shoppers to enter photos taken via their cell phones of the best and worst (or funniest) underwear packaging.
