Lotus Organics is the commercial online shopfront for Shellie & Michael Lackman, via which they sell many of the brands we have showcased here on Treehugger. “All garments are made with certified organic cotton or hemp fabrics and use low-impact, fiber-reactive dyes.” Which is all great, but maybe you want a little more depth with your eco-shopping. If so, then make yourself a cup of Revolution White Chai Organic Tea, grab some Ginger Cookies and settle down to read their informative Organic Clothing blog. Delve into the machinations of methyl bromides used to fumigate wooden shipping pallets that are then transport organic clothes internationally. Or skintex’s microcapsules of retinol and chitosan (from shellfish) embedded into a pair of jeans to stimulate collagen production and reduce fat! Dive deeper to get up speed on Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, a very complete treatise on hemp, the underbelly of Tencel, how to care for an organic wool sweaters and so much more. ::The Organic Clothing Blog

So, who was the first to start this trend of making organic clothing? For so long it seems like all you saw were hemp purses and necklaces. How comfortable are the hemp garments? What is a fiber-reactive dye? Can you still throw it in the washer with everything else? I definitely like the styles that Lotus Organics produce.

Cargo,

The hemp clothes can be just as comfy as cotton. Quite often it is a cotton-hemp blend.
It washes just like cotton.

I visited many sites looking for organic baby clothes for my new born baby, and very few offers cute and organic. Most organic baby clothes are quite boring... I found a couple of places, such as cupcakebabies.com - Cupcake They seems to have cute baby clothes that are organic. Basic baby clothes, but cute. Organic fabric feels softer and stronger than conventional cotton clothes which was a big plus for our baby... Let me know if anyone lknow of any good place to shop cool organic stuffs.

Have you tried www.mini-organic.co.uk ?
Very cute organic cotton baby clothes.

The cotton is a lot softer than standard cotton as the fibres are longer, plus of course you avoid all the chemicals that are sprayed on non-organic cotton, and absorbed by your skin.

I sell baby clothes and always wanted to offer organic selections but never thought the market was big enough. Is this a growing market?

I’ve put my young child in some organic baby clothes before and she seemed to have an itching problem so I’ve stuck with cotton etc lately. I would prefer to buy really cool baby clothing in organics but they are usually hard to come by and since I think my daughter is allergic to them I’m not sure what I can do.

I was shopping online looking for organic clothing and found some designer children's clothes, http://www.sandboxcouture.com. I went ahead and bought several pairs of outfits for my daughter, and will probably go back and buy the trendy toddler clothing I saw there earlier. I’ll have to take my daughter to the doctor and find out what if anything in those organic clothes she’s got is causing her to itch because I’d prefer to wear those.

Organic baby clothes are something I’ve thought about to some extent in the past and would prefer my baby wear those types of clothes but I wasn’t sure until now where to find them. Your blog is really great and informative. Now I know I’m not alone in my thinking. The more environmentally friendly clothes are or anything for that matter is a good thing. Time to shop!

Yeah! This blog is really useful! Using organic clothes is really important for body's skin but most of all, for your own comfort.

JP - in answer to your query - have a look at the kids organic cotton clothing over at http://www.arabellamiller.com
It's not just the fabric that is organic either - the ink is also certified organic which makes these kid's t-shirts a fully organic product. The clothes are certified by the UK Soil Association.

Wow great site...very informative post!thanks for the tips

This is a great site. I am very much interested in selling organic or natural clothing but I am having problems locating Wholesale clothing for children.
Any suggestions?? Thank you for this site.

I think organic clothing for little kids tends to be forgotten and I don't know if it's because they grow out of clothes so quickly so parents don't want to spend the money. To me, this is the most important time to be using organic products whether it's food, detergents, clothing, or cleaning products. Because babies and kids are so small all the bad stuff in the environment effect them so much more. I try to use organic onesies and tshirts under my daughter's regular clothing to try and provide a protective barrier for her body. I even started a small line of organic shirts and onesies because I feel it's so important to get the word out and contribute more options for little kids. Feel free to check them out at www.insideoutkidz.com

What about baby clothes? I’m pretty conscience about trying to buy the right things and while I would love to wear organic clothes I have a little one that would need some as well. The clothes certainly look as comfortable as any cotton clothes I’ve seen.

Organic clothing can be bright and beautiful for kids.
50 years ago clothing would have been organic but since the advent of chemical fertilisers etc the farmers could harvest the crops using less labour intensive means and there was less rsk of the crops being destroyed by pests. This however had human and environmental cost. These toxins inevitably enter the food chain.
So organic is better for everyone.

I am a huge fan of this store called Susie's Deals!
They carry clothes for everyone, men's, women's, and kids too. I always know that I can walk in to one of their stores a come out with a big bag of really cute stylish stuff for $25! Everything in the store is sold for $5.99 or less and you can even find things that are 2 for $5.99!
I have bought some really nice name brand things at this store and given them to friends and family for Christmas. People have NO idea that these nice items only cost me $5.99 each .. It's Awesome!
I urge you to check them out, because you only have one store on your site that carries clothing and this store appeals to everyone! And they have a web site where you can also shop online or snatch an e-coupon to use at the store, and if you spend $50 the shipping is FREE which is a definite plus!
They have a website and stores in Utah, Nevada, and California.
