Karim Rashid's Kit 24 House
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 02.25.06

Everyone lined up to see the Kit 24 House by Karim Rashid at the Interior Design Show in Toronto. It is made from 24 facets of aluminum panels, can be assembled in 24 hours, and the upper level is supposed to rotate every 24 hours. We were just waiting for Kiefer Sutherland to dash through the crowds. Outside of it being prefab, there is not much to commend it to Treehugger.

almost everything in the house, from the custom plastic laminate floors to the furniture, was plastic.

We did like the staircaise, looking like some kind of steel spinal column;

acres of ferns died millions of years ago to make the hydrocarbons consumed in the manufacture of this bathroom. What more can we say? Just that they did it much better 50 years ago with the Monsanto House of the Future.

Leave stuff like this to mocoloco.com, and keep focused on the green. Simply being prefab does not make an eco house.
mmm living in plastic.... hey ever hear if the MGM Grand Hotel??
until I saw that, i was thinking well it could be 'Dymaxian', but that would be an insult to Bucky. Rashid's got good taste and stylee+ but until he goes green, he's a nobody to me
How can you present this on your website,...Prefab, doesn't mean is green,...and his palstic products with short term visual egoventered appeal of his interior products its not even close to green,..I mean come on this is a guy that claims to wanting to change the world and design all this junk we do not need...styling for the pure pleasure of it with no ethics!
Now that's funky, I like it! ;-)

Is there any truth to the statements made of this unit? Set-up in 24 hours? Rotating top floor? It's basically a giant glowing pink ego stroke. I can't believe Treehugger is wasting webspace on it. The other posts have it correct... it's all plastic, and pre-fab doesn't make it green, it just makes it... pre-fab.
I was in it..
It was lame.
It reminded me of the "gravitron".
also, that fancy staircase was rickety...
that was the first thing i thought when i saw it...gravitron.
and ugly as sh*t.
rashid is brillian when it comes to marketing,
but an idiot when it comes to desin.
the man's claim to fame was a garbage can.
i think his 15 min should be up!
i didn't waste my time waitng in line to go in.
i just laughed and walked by.
I like the Lotus Bookcase - it is glass not plastic, is it? I would like to know its price and who is the producer?
come on people some of these comments are abit harsh you have to give credit where its due i think its a fantastic piece of design something funky with a modern twist keep up the good work Karim! xXx
I love it... so simple and yet so complex... I want one...
I heard it through the grapevine that Karim is about to blow up with the Green Design institute... his products will take a U-Turn and provide for our environment in such an amazing way that noone will know what has hit them...
