Wind Farms, Food Banks and Photography

Food & Health (food)

windfarmdonnaconnor.jpgA tad late with this one too, yet it goes to show the synergies that can evolve between both environmentally and socially responsible endeavours. Last month the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) of New Jersey dedicated their first windfarm site (five, 380-feet tall wind turbines capable of producing 7.5 megawatts). Entry to the event was via a donated canned food item. These were contributed to the local Community Food Bank for distribution to those in need, over the holiday period. Photographer Donna Connor, also added to the kitty by donating proceeds from the poster sales of her images of windfarms. (Wonder if Donna entered our own TH wind farm photographic contest?). Not only did ACUA promote renewable energy, they collected 32,560 pounds (14,800 kg) of non-perishable food items valued at about $54,000 USD. Posters can still purchased for $50 USD at ::PhotoFace
