Instant Survey: How's The Water?

by Erin Courtenay - Madison, WI on 01.24.06

Sadly, our tolerance for dangerous water is becoming naturalized, to the point where statements such as "I wouldn't eat fish out of that river!" don't necessarily fill us with ire; they are simply normal warnings like "don't take Highway 5 at rush hour, you'll never get home!" But polluted water is not "natural" and the more we become accustomed to it, the less opportunity we'll have to save it.

i said no, there are places i can fish here, but there are warning about how many fish you can eat in a month because of mercury, there is probably someplace i could fish that is safe but i have not heard of it

50 miles seem to be a far distance. I would ask 10 miles, maybe 5. The distance a nice bike ride would be to get to that swimhole!! I have an ocean, so any polluted lake/stream is out on this question. And we have our fair share around these areas. (Cape Town, South Africa)
