Living in and around the Washington DC area is a nightmare. When I moved here, it was utterly disgusting to drive around and look for an apartment.
It's all needless sprawl, and it continues to grow and eat up every last treed and grassy area till there's nothing but flat 1-2 story outlet malls and parking lots as far as you can see.
Driving around Alexandria, VA gave me an anxiety attack.
No option for "I live in a giant city"? Seattle is so big that it'd be hard for a relative newcommer to the city itself to notice anything (3 years in the city itself, moved from a smaller city 32 miles to the south).
i live in town with just enough people to not be rural. however in recent years the vogue thing has been to cut up the woods for these big cul-de-sac developments complete with a few mini mansions and enormous lawns. the latest said offense just happens to be right across the street from my house. naturally, these are the same people who then complain a few months down the road about the insanely high property taxes because there is little industry in town, so we gotta tax the hell out of the people who can afford these houses and naturally all the other townsfolk. welcome to yuppie-ville.
