Eco-Living in NYC at The Solaire

thesolaire.jpg solaireview.jpg

The Solaire, located in lower Manhattan, is the first green residential high-rise in the nation. It’s 27 stories high and sits right on the Hudson River with perfect views of the Statue of Liberty. The structure received Green Building Council’s Gold rating under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. The Solaire uses 30% less energy, two-thirds of its materials were manufactured within 500 miles, internal water systems cut potable water consumption in half, paints have few, if any, volatile compounds, the air is filtered and floor-to-ceiling casement windows are in every unit to maximize sunlight. For other green features, check out this page. And see the blue solar electric panels on the building? Those are recycled computer chips. The amenities in The Solaire are just as impressive: a children’s playroom, a fitness center, indoor bicycle storage, maid and valet services and a landscaped rooftop garden for residents to take in the gorgeous view (and to provide natural insulation). The Solaire, developed by The Albanese Organization, is the first of three green developments in the lower Manhattan neighborhood. A 92-acre community is planned for the Battery Park area. Check out their impressive website and make sure to watch the video. Via ::Coastal Living ::The Solaire

Not to rain on the parade, but I think this was the place that quarried granite in NJ (less than 500 miles for sure) but sent the granite to China for processing, then back!

I'll have to look that up to be sure...

well nick you're a new yorker so i woudln't argue with ya-- but "battery park" isself is 19th century landfill, "battery park city" is WTC landfill (from when they built it not post 9/11-- that stuff is certainly in china!)
