DIY Wind Power

Latest-_Gen2.jpgThe last time we heard the name Ben Jandrell, he was wiring solar cordless headphones in our DIY Eco-Tech contest. Well, Ben is back with a great resource for DIY TreeHuggers - his site gotwind.org. Here, you can find pictures, descriptions, instructions and even videos for DIY wind generators and other "small scale renewable energy." Gotwind.org is in its infancy, so unfortunately there are only a handful of projects available, but we are hoping with continued success, Ben will be able to expand the site's contents and provide more detailed step-by-step processes. However, if you have the technical prowess and an interest in small scale wind power, this is certainly a good way to get started. ::Gotwind.org

I had six giant wind generators put on the adjacent property without notification from the planning committee, Read Lincoln County Wisconsin's 2001 study on wind and you can see why at 58 I will be homeless. There are so many things wrong with wind as power. Solar is so much less intrusive/
The damage they do is so great and the way they put them in rural areas along the hills and cliffs, the way they tear up over 20 miles of roads, and use so many other distructive ways to ensure they get that 350 million from the goverment is a sin. We have very little money in Union Oregon to fight these monsters.

the expensive part of building these "windyGens" is the Magnets and "enameled copper wire" I built the coils and wired them and molded them in resin then fell out with the wife and my Son (god bless him ) dumped the Magnets..said it took him ages to prize them loose from the metal frame of the traylor?!?!?!?

Young, first-time home owner in search of renewable energy source utilization and storage - a DIY nightmare of a commitment.

I live on the 5th floor in the city. I need a window mounted or balcony mounted wind generator.

The wind power and solar power units have come down in cost so much. I was very excited to see so many options. You can even make them very small and attractive to match your home. You can also sell power back the the electric company grid if you make more than you can use. You do have to check in your state to see if they allow this. They do in my state so I'm very excited. I'll also be researching government grants for using this since it helps the planet and the power company. Win win my kind of deal.

Thanks,
Shawna

I bought a $10 hand crank led flash light at walmart. Took the gears out, and stuck on a fan blade, and added chop stick for the shaft.
