2007 Toyota Yaris Photos From LA Auto Show
by Michael Graham Richard, Gatineau, Canada on 01. 9.06
Reader Damien Somerset has sent us three photos of the 2007 Toyota Yaris that he took at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show along with this note: "This is some pics of the Yaris. I don't think the MSRP has been posted on TH yet, it is $10,200.00. Very inexpensive!" That's indeed a pretty low price for one of the best-selling selling small cars in the rest of the world (can't wait for the Honda Fit/Jazz to hit the USA either), though adding some options will no doubt bring it closer to $13-14k. We only wish Damien had taken a more centered shot from the front... Update: Here are two more "candid" photos of the 2006 Canadian version of the Toyota Yaris (it came out in Canada last autumn, half a year before the US release date) by our very own Lloyd Alter. These were taken in the streets of Toronto, and if you look closely, you can see that this is a 4-door model.

Update: One more from Lloyd.

This car is already available, it is called the Scion Xa and I own one. Same platform, same engine, same performance, more options standard, and a no-hassle price PLUS 5 DOORS! Why are you so excited about this?
It is not the same car though they shares many things (Yaris gets better fuel economy and uses the Toyota's ECO-VAS production system. It is also ULEV-II, while the xA is LEV IIRC), and I am a bit excited because this is the first in a wave of new decent small cars in the US. It's about time.
According to toyota.ca. The Yaris gets worse highway mileage and about the same city mileage as the corolla. I don't see the benefit.
Maverick, this looks like the new (Japanese) version of the Scion xA.
The Yaris are a different car that have been out for a long time elsewhere in the world and was known (in its old sedan form) as the Echo in the U.S.. More here.
Jesse,
True, though this version of the Yaris (in the pictures) is new. The previous version was out in Canada since 2004 as the Echo Hatchback. The new version, though similar, is *not* just a cosmetic change.
Michael,
AFAIK, real-world fuel economy results are in favor of the Yaris over the Corolla. It is also less expensive and easier to park in crowded cities.
I hope that Honda keeps the name Jazz in the US for their car instead of Fit. Fit is just not a car name.
I have red about 25 articles on new Yaris and what i have read says its real USA cost will start at around 12,500. Next about 50% of new small(great gas mileage) new cars will be 45 or older - we want our 'basics' like auto/air/cruise/pwr windows...and from articles say if you want those 'basics' YARIS will end up at about $16,500 + ! ouch way too much for the 'cheapest' car out there : (..im waiting for FIT and maybe even end of year 06 rio will get just as good gas mileage ! ha
hhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooo
I love it! It could very well become my next car in 10 months.

This car is nice.It is better than the scion tc(the S Sedan that is)!!!!!!!
... there is nothing magical about a 1.5 litre petrol engine that gets 40mpg (we had these vehicles 70 years ago) - we need plug-in diesel hybrids at the very least. We have the technology available for 100+ mpg vehicles. UC Davis (Sacramento) converted a full size Suburban to plug-in hybrid drive and got 60 mpg (U.S.) - the VW 1-litre concept car gets 265mpg (U.S.) - it's not even a hybrid. Biodiesel (B100) reduces CO2 by 78% and hydrocarbons and particulates by roughly 50%. We need to transition to a sustainable way of living by reducing our carbon load on the atmosphere. The Pacific Ocean has seen a sustained 1 degree F increase in surface temperature in 1976 (the ocean is a heat sink and has phenomenal thermal inertia, so an increase like this is the beginning of a positive feedback loop with subsequent warming like a runaway freight train) which has directly led to the extinction of at least one species of animal in Costa Rica that we know of and possibly many more in other mountainous areas around the world (Australia). We have also seen a 0.5 degree F spike in atmospheric temperature in 1998, which has precipitated more frequent, violent and changing weather patterns. In 2003, 26,000 people died in Europe from unprecedented heat waves. The transportation sector contributes more than 30% of total CO2 to the atmosphere. With biofuels and advancements such as hybrid drive, we can reduce our consumption of non-renewable petroleum and transition to a sustainable way of living (yes, sadly, there is no magical solution for free energy buried in the ground by our ancestors). But there are solutions and each small action we take now will greatly affect our lives and the lives of our children to come. Please, pick up a pen and write a letter (registered mail) to the president of Toyota USA - THE EFFICIENCY RATING OF YOUR TOYOTA YARIS FOR SALE IN THE U.S. IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. YES, WE ARE TURNING A NEW LEAF - WE WANT FUEL EFFICIENT CARS SO THAT WE CAN BE RID OF OUR ADDICTION TO SAUDI OIL - WE WANT OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS TO COME HOME NOW FROM THE OCCUPIED MIDDLE EAST. YOUR SUB-STANDARD MILEAGE RATINGS ARE NOT BENEFITING US HERE. UNLESS YOU CAN PROVIDE US WITH A VEHICLE THAT HAS A CONSUMPTION RATING OF 3LITRES/100KM OR LESS, WE ARE NOT INTERESTED.
the 2007 yaris gets 51 mpg on the highway which at least a start and it has a lot more power than a geo metro so at least their doing something.
nothing better than XA I guess and the yaris is good but weaker than XA
is ure so smart then u build a toyota that can do 3 mpg in 100 km so i wouldnt be talkin if i were u and its not that easy to build atoyota that can do wat u expect so be quiet
