sciencemag-evolution-01.jpgWe are at the time of the year when all kinds of awards (such as the Zayed Prize) are handed out and when publications look back on the year that is about to end. For 2005, Science magazine gives top honor to scientific research into how evolution works. "The studies bestowed with the title 'breakthrough of the year' by Science include the sequencing of the chimpanzee genome; recreation of the 1918 flu virus in a laboratory; and a study on European blackcap birds which demonstrated how two different populations can become two separate species. [...] 'Evolution is not just something that scientists study as an esoteric enterprise. It has very important implications for public health and for our understanding of who we are,' said Colin Norman, news editor of Science." ::Science Magazine, via ::Evolution takes science honours, ::Kofi Annan Wins Prestigious Zayed Environmental Prize
