Sarah Harmer on protecting the Environment

Many stars and performers talk the talk about the environment, but Sarah Harmer walks the walk- literally. She spent last summer on the Niagara Escarpment, the 725 kilometer ridge running from Niagara to Tobermorey in Ontario. This supposedly protected resource is being exploited for aggregate to make Treehugger's favourite building material, concrete. "For this award-winning singer, the escarpment is more than just a backdrop; it was her backyard growing up, and one that she guards jealously."I've just spent 10 years or more touring around the world ... and this is as good as it gets," the folk-rock singer says on a recent trek along the Bruce Trail." She is donating the proceeds from her new song "Escarpment Blues" to PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) in its opposition to quarry expansion.
