Room For Thought: Essays by Avi Friedman

by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 12. 3.05
Culture & Celebrity (books)

room for thought.jpgWhen Peter Drucker died a few weeks ago, we thought about the number of times we tried and failed to finish his masterwork "Management: Tasks and Responsibilities" and yet how much we loved his essays in "Adventures of a Bystander" where he discusses people he met in his long remarkable life. We were reminded of this when we read Avi Friedman's collection of essays about urbanism. We own all of his other books but this is the one worth reading- These are wonderful stories about his life; about community; about reinventing cities; even one about prefab. It is a warm and accessible discussion about urbanism- when good writers get personal rather than academic the stories can be affecting and effective. ::Room For Thought- Can't find it in the States yet but you can order from Ballenford Books
