Greenlight: A New Online Magazine

We are not quite certain what to make of Greenlight Magazine, a new online magazine extravaganza with sorta treehugger content but a cast of dozens, some kickass technology and clearly a huge investment. They have a dead tree magazine format and software that is like Acrobat on steroids, the idea being that you read it like a magazine with all of the benefits of hyperlinking. On the other hand we have a 21 inch Trinitron and have been using computers since our beloved Kaypro II and we had trouble with it- we missed the bloglike configuration and kept sneaking back to their more traditional form that we covered in February . (is that not weird? We consider the magazine format radical and the online format traditional.) A brave attempt, an interesting concept, some good content and great integration of graphic design and computer technology. Is this the future of green journalism online? We wonder. ::Greenlight Magazine

The Green Light Green Gift Guide is the best gift guide I've found online. I didn't have any issues with the web format, but I think it could be a bit more simple. Anyway, I'll be excited to see what they have in future issues.

The website also has a pdf version available. It's not as easy as a regular web page, but at least is is more familiar than their own interface.

Interface wasn't bad and even worked on browsers/OSs other than Windows, something that was a definite plus. Once I set the number of pages displayed at once down to one from two, the fonts were visible again, even on my 12" iBook.

Definitely a cool idea and something I would like to see tried in other places. I would even be tempted to subscribe to it if it was a lower cost than the print version (yes, I'm one of those shallow people who prefers to get something tangible and physical).

The green gift guide was very good as well.
