i use yahoo mail
So.. is this just curiousity?
Curiosity.. and a bit more. You'll understand soon.
...but i already read ur rss feeds on gmail.. what more! tell us more!!!
I was just about to start fishing for an invite.
Maybe I should wait to find out if Gmail is deemed un-treehugger fist.
i use gmail, but only for web sites and people i don't know well, for my friends i use email thats on my own server with my own domain name, my partner is a computer geek and has tons of spam filters and whatnot set up, and he does web page hosting and email hosting as a side job for some of the companies he works for and for other people.
i hope gmail is treehugger aproved? i prefer it to yahoo or hotmail or any of those because the interface is more user friendly, or seems more user friendly to me at least
Excuse me, what is Gmail?
for websites you should always use sneakemail.. I have a sneak e-mail address for everything I use.. even my bank. www.sneakemail.com it allows you to use a randomly generated e-mail address for anything you want and forwards it to your normal e-mail. its great because I know that I've gotten 5 spams on my typekey e-mail address.. trust me for blog posters its a lifesaver
I admit I don't know a lot about it, however, why would you want to use a public company to store private e-mail? Isn't it better stored on your personal computer and the server used only for travel to and from? Maybe I just don't get it. Have a great day all :). don dunklee
ooooh sneakey! kewel!
ok Mike what gives????
google is incredibly intrusive into the privacy of it's users.
do some a little searching on the net about the evils of google.
Good heavens! What's with the overwhelming use of GMail? I got an account a while back but never used it, since I've already got a few e-mail accounts and didn't see a point to another one. (Plus, I really don't like having the same address as a billion other folks do. I'm more about diversity, myself.)
So, for those of you who use GMail, why did you choose it?
I am an IT manager with my own email servers, but I do have a gmail account that I use for some email:
-massive storage--currently over 2GB--and, if you are a bit tech-savy, you can find programs that let you use this storage for things other than your email
-best web email interface I've seen, lots of features, more being added all the time
-ads, while present, are unobtrusive, text-only ads that have only caught my attention a few times at all in the year + that I've been using gmail.
If you haven't tried gmail out yet, you should, ESPECIALLY if you use yahoo mail, hotmail, or another similar "free" email service. getting rid of the obnoxious graphic/flash ads is reason enough. also, invites aren't that hard to come by anymore, current members have the ability to hand out something like 50 invites a day. in fact, post here, and I'll send you an invite.
On an unrelated note, why would an ellipse (three dots) get my comment submission rejected:
"Sorry, your comment was blocked by our spam filter. The problematic phrase was "(elipse)".
I chose it because I like the interface and the very easy to say domain name. I also like the fact that I can access all my e-mails from anywhere (I don't use a fat client) and I hate yahoo and hotmail
i started using it because i installed google talk to call reletives who live in other countries, and google talk uses the gmail login info, and also tells me when i have no email. and because i liek the gmail interface, i had the gmail acount for about a year though befor i ever really used it, for stuff that won't lead to spam though i agree with the above poster about individuality and stuff and thats why i keep my own domain name and have email addresses there to give out to friends, and i also let a few select people have email addresses at the domain name.
I've been using gmail for about a month and so far love it. Like others here, I was tired of the yahoo interface, adds, and so on. I had a email account through my internet provider (roadrunner) but it had very little storage and was not user friendly. It's also very easy to locate "old" emails using gmail.
I have a Gmail account, two Comcast accounts (my broadband provider), two accounts for work, and several aliases for work. I use Thunderbird for everything, except Gmail. I love that I don't have to clean out my Gmail inbox and I can search it with Google. (I can also search Thunderbird with Google Desktop.) I know the ads are there, but, honestly, I never notice them. Gmail is my favorite e-mail client by far.
Here is a good article about gmail's very questionable approach to privacy:

hey people!
there's a new cool way to get rss feeds in gmail, so we wanted to see if our audience used it. check it out if you do! it's under settings/web clips and if you search for treehugger dot com and add it, you're done.
best,
Graham
hey Graham!!! posting a comment!!! hehheh
and that JakeG question is true: what is so horrible about those three little dots?
the RSS feature is cool, no replacement for hanging out at TH all day but still cool.
i also find gmail incredible good for it's search, for the rss' the Gigs of space... oh and my favorite feature, being able to send an entire website to someone (or to myself) not just the link, but open the email, and the whole thing is there...
but seriousy if many are using gmail> do the rss feeds!!!
I use gmail for most of my mailing list traffic. If you're in need of a gmail account, send me a note at aplumb(at)gmail(dot)com.
I thought that *everybody* used Gmail. ;-) Seriously, though, I don't know how I ever lived without it.
