by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 12.22.05
TH Exclusives (gifts under $25)

4G_Cases_Circle.gifIt is definitely getting late, but if you are in Canada or, for some reason Kuwait, you can still get these lovely Jute iPod cosies. Developed by VaMooosh, an "accessory house" where "We believe in Love. We believe in Music. We believe in Peace. We chose to enhance our lives by working on our own terms. We chose to take an eco-friendly route. We chose to help under-privileged children." they say also that jute is "100% bio-degradable & recyclable and thus environmentally friendly" Worst.Flash Intro.Ever. but great name at ::HeyJute.com found at ::CPUsed

ummm, aren't ipod's produced in an extremely untreehugger process?

so a green wrapper for a poluting product makes it a good thing?

maybe people should get jute seat covers for their hummers eh?

To respond to the comment about IPOD's being "untreehugging". Yes, that is the pessimistic way of looking at it. There is a much more accurate outlook. Each 4G IPOD can carry a minimum of 15,000 songs. At 12 songs a CD, that's 1,250 plastic CDs that do not need to be manufactured or purchased (remember all the components: plastic wrapping, cases, and CD). Compare that amount of plastic to the amount required to make one IPOD. Further, these cases are an alternative to all other cases out there which are made of polymers horrible to the environment. It's an eco-friendly alternative. An alternative that did not exist before. It would only be wise & better for the world, to recognize that fact and offer it to the world instead of shooting it down (which is always the easier route). And for all the Apple haters out there, it's not like these cases are going to pursuade anyone to buy an IPOD! It's for those people who already have IPODs and can go a little eco-friendly for its case. They now have a choice which they didn't before! I personally, hope that people stop buying CDs and start downloading. Imagine how much plastic production we'd stop! Yes, we can choose to look at the negative .. but I choose to look at the overwhelming positive points that these Jute cases offer.

The Flash intro works fine with Internet Explorer.

VJ: Thanks for pointing out that it works on IE, much better but it is still waaay too long.

There is a skip button on the top left. Hard to see. Merry Christmas :)

There's a lot of music that is not available for download. Also, not everyone wants to go along with Apple's DRM. My cds and records have outlasted 2 ipods so far. And why does anything need a jute cozy? It's not really going to protect it.

jump to top tara says:

hi tara. Have you tried one of these cases? Cause, I have a jute wallet, and it's very sturdy. You see unlike hemp, jute's fibre is much stronger, and thicker. I can see it being quite safe, more so the all jute ones. I'm getting one of these cases I think, and hold judgement till then. Also, maybe it'll match my wallet! lol cheers :)
