skiing.jpgIn what seems to be an accelerating trend, the Olympic winter games in Turin, Italy will be rendered carbon neutral and plans are being put in place to reduce resource consumption and the environmental footprint of the events. The plan was unveiled at a sports conference in Nairobi held by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the International Olympics Committee. The theme of the conference was “Sport, Peace, and the Environment.” In addition to offsetting greenhouse gasses with the purchase of carbon credits, snow-making machines will be made more water efficient and buildings constructed for the events will be green. Similar plans are being made for the 2008 summer games in Beijing.
