'Sustainable Energy in Motion' Bike Tour

Travel & Nature (eco-travel)

organicbikeride.jpgTipster Vladislav D. thought TH readers might be interested in a program he is involved with. So we read the associated blurb: Bike hundreds of miles. Meet Incredible people, Participate In amazing service projects. Stay on organic farms and work to support sustalnable food growth practices. Study and work with Native American communities. Live with the land and camp under the stars. Change your world, one mile at a time.” But it just didn’t seem to have anything that would appeal to Treehuggers, so we decided not to mention it. I mean, who’d want to spend nine days outdoors, travelling by human-powered means, doing good works and eating “mostly locally-sourced, organic and vegan” meals? ....

And organized by a group that has as its ten key values: grassroots democracy, social justice and equal opportunity, ecological wisdom, non-violence, decentalisation, community-based economics and economic justice, feminism and gender equity, respect for diversity, personal and global responsibility, future focus and sustainability? Nah, there was no way we could make a post on such stuff get up and fly. Our readers wouldn’t be the slightest bit intrigued by something like this. Just what was the ::The Portland Peace & Justice Centre thinking?

what's with the new post & comment arrangement on TH? I cant emphasise enough how strongly I dislike it!! It used to be if yo clicked on a post heading you got the full post with comments arranged underneath, now instead you get other related posts & you have to click comments to see comments or make a comment, but then the commments field is under a million ads so it's a stretch to find the original post that yr commenting on or reading comments about. And then you have to click back a gazillion times to get back to the original page you were on, and it's slower now. If I want to see related posts I will bloddy well search for them myself, don't patronise me with TH related content ads. That's what it is. Advertising & I hate advertising. I don't buy mags or watch TV for that reason. If you want to offer relatd content, then condense it, or give one link at the bottom, ie "see related content".

the new arrangement sux big time, a step back for useability, enough to turn me off TH.
rant over.

Great to see the Sustainable Energy bike tour on TH! Vladislav is a great supporter of cycling in Portland.

But, I noticed your link to his ride is bad! Please correct this ASAP!

met these guys in DC at the green festival last month and they were awesome! If your into biking and sustainable living/energy/ect. this is a fantastic program. There are other programs out there for biking, such as Adventure cycling who are one of the largest cycling groups in NA. They offer comprable distance trips at a similiar price point but without any of the integrated programs and sustainable mission PFP offers. check it out.

Hello,

I was on the ride last summer. I would not recommend the ride as I was hungry during the trip because not enough food was provided. I am a Colorado rider and know how important food is for an enjoyable ride. I also felt that unsafe I had no maps for the trip. We traveled in pairs and many people did get lost because the leaders provided incomplete directions and no maps. The discussions were one-sided and often not relevent to sustainablity, which is why I went. Sure the ride sounds good on paper, but I would not recommend the trip because of safety, comfort, and discussion concerns.

I have signed up for the ride this summer. My friend and I who were supposed to be riding partners have already had a bad experience with these guys. They don't follow up on you. I have e-mailed them 3 times, called them 5 times to a number that has no voicemail, and they have yet to get back to me. I want to sue these guys.
