Recycled Holiday Cards

by Justin Thomas, Virginia on 11.11.05
TH Exclusives (gifts under $15)

recycled_holiday_card.jpgHere are some understated Holiday Cards from KidBean. The cards are printed with soy ink and there are two types of paper to choose from: blend of hemp and recycled paper, or Grow-A-Note paper (which is handmade paper made from post-consumer recycled paper with embedded with wildflower seeds). The cards say "Season's Greetings" inside, and each set contains 8 cards and 8 recycled envelopes, and they cost $8.95. :: KidBean.Com

"Grow-a-Note" sounds like a good idea, but the company that makes the paper (Green Field Paper Co.) offers no information about what species are in the mix. Could be a disaster in the making, depending on what seeds they are using and where they get planted. Just because it says "wildflowers" doesn't mean the plants are native to where you live.

Actually, Green Field does list their wildflower seeds. They are: Annual Gaillardia, Baby Blue Eyes, Baby’s Breath, Corn Flower, Catchfly, Chinese Houses, White Yarrow, Blue Eyed Grass and Evening Primrose. They're a wonderful company, very concerned about the environment, and they have a great selection of tree-free paper products, including note sets made out of recycled denim, garlic paper, and, of course, hemp. Full disclosure: we sell some of their products at Urban Eco. Thanks to TreeHugger for these tips for an eco-friendly holiday!
