Matt Damon Gets A Hybrid

by Justin Thomas, Virginia on 11.24.05
Culture & Celebrity

mattdamonap.jpgMatt Damon has become the latest movie star to buy a hybrid car after his family urged him to stop guzzling gas. Damon insists he's not trying to be part of an environmental trend among his peers — he just wanted to save money at the gas pump. He explains: "I just have one for my own personal reasons. I don't have a car in New York but I just got a place in Florida and we (himself and fiancee Luciana Barroso) got a car there and it's a hybrid. My father drives one, my brother drives one. They're like, 'Why would you ever drive a regular car?' There's no reason to. These cars are just as good, they're just as fast and they use less gas, so I don't understand why everyone isn't driving one." :: Contact Music

ok so Matt Damon says it's not to jump on the eco bandwagon so maybe for him a prius is fine... but you know what? I want some of the eco stars to up the ante already... seriously Leo Di has a solar roof on his house and he's still using a fossil fuel car?? Try to tell me that he wouldn't do better for everyone (and have more fun, look more stylish and starlike) behind the wheel of a Venturi Festish?

OK So maybe it's priced a bit outside of your or my price range (and sure you can't do a coast to Coast road trip, though you can drive easily from LA to SF on all tose quick charge stations, like Stars do big roadtrips anyways), but am I the only one that things that eco-minded stars could do us all a great PR service if they started to ride around in hot pimped out EVs? I mean, even the bioBling cars woudl look hotter on this lot-- at least he's only doing it to be cheap and not to save the planet-- maybe he'll speak to the cheap non-treehuggers out there...

Meanwhile Leo, you'd look a lot hotter in a VFetish.

...just saw that Brad Pitt quote below... and got me thinking him too! he'e even going on about how EVs will mean we wont have to rape alaska... so Brad-- get a Fetish and blow us away, or be happy with your half-raping alaska (what with the better milage from his hybrid...)

I am very surprised Damon is not more willing to come out with a stronger statement about alt energy cars - given his lead role in the stunning new film SYRIANNA, which is all about the extremely complicated, extremely corrupt oil biz.

All TreeHuggers need to see that film btw!!!
