LED Christmas lights are very efficient: the use a tiny amount of power (80% less than regular ones) and last ten years or more. The vibrant colors put out by these lights are not available with traditional Christmas lights. The reason for that is the color isn't achieved by placing a colored glass over a clear bulb, the color being emitted is actually part of the light spectrum. Available for $9.95-$18.95 from Gardener's Supply Company or Amber Leaves. See also these LED lights from Brookstone we featured previously.

You can purchase these at Costco also.

These are just Forever Bright (aka Holiday Creations) LED lights, available all over the place from local hardware stores to Costco (even some city power companies like Tacoma, WA have offered them for sale in years past at extremely discounted prices). Best prices I've found online are at brite-lite.com. I saw some red->green color shifting ones on a display at Costco a couple of weeks ago, and am holding out to see if they actually get any product in (all they had in stock was plain red).

I picked up some of these at the Christmas Tree Shop for $5.99 and I thought they were white, but when I got them home and plugged them in they glowed a dim yellow/orange. It's ok, but not really what I was hoping for.

Be Careful. The color is not necessarily ture. The red is not necessarily red with all brands, etc. The red before power is applied turns more of an orange color when plugged in. etc.

Some stores have doubbled or trippled the "sale" price.

Low price on the approx 70 lite 25 foot string was as Lowe's $12.97, mixed color or $14.97 for a solid color.

Be careful.

I found a number of the plugin (AC powered) LED Christmas lights, including LED rope lights, have annoying flickering issues (perhaps because they didn't spend a few cents to add the correct rectifiers and capacitors?).

No all plugin LED lights do this.
