The Toyota Camry is the best-selling car in the US and very popular in many countries around the world (it recently passed the 10 million units sold mark). It is being completely redesigned for 2007 and a US-made hybrid version of the Camry will also be available. As we've mentioned it will come with a 4 cylinders engine unlike the Honda Accord hybrid. Until now, we knew little about the 2007 Camry and no photos were available, but Autoblog found a Japanese magazine that had some pictures and info (you can read the translated version here - apparently Google translates "Camry" to "back hole"). We learn that the new version will have a drag coefficient of 0.28 (the Prius, at 0.26, is one of the most "slippery" cars on the road) which should help it achieve good highway fuel economy, that the length of the new car is the same as the current version and that a 2.4 liters 4-cylinder engine of 167 hp will be available in the non-hybrid model. No word on a V6 yet. More photos below.

It is fairly realistic to expect that it will be rated ULEV2 in emissions for the non-hybrid and AT-PZEV for the hybrid, but the big unknowns are if it will be a significant improvement on the current version in the fuel economy department, and if the hybrid version will sell well enough to truly bring hybrids to the mainstream.

Update: A couple more photos.

I checked out the japanese page, but trying to read that google translation made my brain hurt. By the way, the translation for Corolla is 'back hole', not 'black hole'. I'm not sure if it's maybe a golfing reference.

Any word on how long we have to wait for such a vehicle in Canada?

Fixed "black hole", thanks. Guess I'm dyslexic.

As for Canada, I'm not sure. My best guess is around the end of the 2006 summmer.

Toyota copied the Mazda 6 with front of the car.
They can't design their own. what a copy cat?
But I have to admit the interior looks good.

First thing, thank you for the pics. Second, is this model bigger than the current model? I have a 02camry now and my wife and son love it. But I'm waiting to trade it in for 07camry or 06lexusIS. How do they compare? THANKS AND GOD BLESS. P.S. We think the 07camry is vetter looking now.

Cortez,

The length will not change at 189.2 inches but the wheelbase has been extended 2.1 inches to 109.2 inches, so it should look pretty much the same size as the current model but will probably ride a bit smooth because of the longer wheelbase.

Looks like an Accord got into the Camry cage, and they spawned a child with Prius guts.

BTW, the name "Corolla" is based on the name of the part of flowers that produce its fragrant scent. I have no idea why the translation bot would translate it as "back hole". The thought of a car named "Back hole" is hillarious.

Looks like Audi A6 couple years ago. Personaly, I am disapointed

UGLY trunk stolen from BMW design. I like the current generation better. this one looks bloated.

Do you know when the Camry'07 is going to be available in the U.S? I have a 2005 and I want to trade it off.

jump to top Rocha says:

Not bad. When will camry07 be available in South Africa and Botswana?

I still like the shape of the 92 model, the 07 model looks like a bigger version of a Ford Mondeo. Whats going on?

We own a 2006 Camry model Altise
It looks like half way between a Honda Accord and a Mazda 6. The back lights are quite similar to that of the Sonata's. But is MUCH better on the eyes Id say as I really despised the old camries looks, especially that Camry Solara "shudder.."

this seems to be the 2007 camry, I wonder if this will come in M'sia

I stayed in Arizona for eight months last 2006 and for four months I drove the RED SR version of the camry 2007 and the black one in my last four months before I came back to Asia.

This car is superb. I love how it pured on freeways and I pushed its limit by driving it between 100 to 120mph on an interstate hiway that I was lucky enough not to get caught for speeding.

The interior is elegant and the handling is really good. There is a big difference on how it looks in the US and here in Asia. The picture above is how it looks like here. I'd go to the US version in terms of visuals.
