Arctic Wildlife Refuge Safe... For Now

by Michael Graham Richard, Gatineau, Canada on 11.10.05
Business & Politics (news)

arctic-wildlife-refuge-01.jpgAfter losing many battles, we win this one and are reminded that the war is not quite over yet. "House leaders late Wednesday [November 9th] abandoned an attempt to push through a hotly contested plan to open an Alaskan wildlife refuge to oil drilling, fearing it would jeopardize approval of a sweeping budget bill Thursday. They also dropped from the budget document plans to allow states to authorize oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts — regions currently under a drilling moratorium." Please watch this documentary video about ANWR and look at this beautiful photo set called the 'Artic Refuge Series' by Subhankar Banerjee. ::Arctic drilling dropped from House bill, ::US House suspends push for Alaska oil drilling, :: ANWR Saved Again... I'm so relieved that ANWR is safe, at least temporarily.

May I also suggest that an excellent site to visit if you want to see some of what's at stake go to
Being Caribou to view the voyage of a couple travelling on foot following the Porcupine Caribou herd for 5 months on their migration to ANWR where they birth their calves.
It's beautiful.
