Veja's Fair Trade Organic Trainers

white_chocolate.jpe Here's some hip, French footwear to feel good about. The Veja Trainer's fabric is made from organic cotton grown by small producers in northeastern Brazil. The sole is Amazonian natural rubber gathered by a cooperative of small producers. Veja also claims that the sewing and assembly is assured by cooperatives where workers' fundamental rights are respected. Vega is available in Europe, Japan, and now at Scout in Los Angeles. :: Veja

We've got fair-trade and organic, if we could add "sustainable" we'd have the trifecta. ;-)

The coton is organic but all the leather pieces are absolutely not.

Also, they could have go all the way making "vegan" shoes. All those decoration pieces could have been made with no leather at all.

All right so they aren't perfectly vegetarian..
They are actually really cool looking! Hip and urban!
I am a total treehugger, yet I don't want to wear dirt colored hippy duds. These rock!

beautiful.

i totally agree with susan.

previously i had even ordered simples "green toe" shoes, which were huge, clunky, awakward, and uncomfortable. not to mention, looked incredibly out of place with everything else i own. and althought not perfect, these shoes are a great start to making truly marketable "treehugger" footwear

These are really pretty - and they look comfortable.

I'm still exploring this site - which I find really informative but can anyone help me: I am still searching for a really good _running_ shoe - not a fashion/walking shoe ... can anyone direct me to an ethical 'real' trainer - most of the ethical shopping guides point me in the direction of converse-style sneakers and fashion trainers ... which aren't going to save my knees as well as trees ...
