Auuugh. "pre-consumer recycled". So let me get this right...it's new material...with the word "recycled" tacked on the end. How did this make it onto treehugger?

I'm not sure but the first thing that comes to mind is that it could be industrial waste.
Of course the goal is to have production processes that don't generate waste (being more efficient saves money, anyway), but if you do, recycling it is better than throwing it away.
Of the raw materials that go into production processes, apparently only 5% make it into the final product, on average (& then that final product often makes it into the bin quite quickly!!). So it seems there could be good opportunities to use pre-consumer waste, but it should be called by-product or some more appropriate name. Better still, industrial ecology, waste = food processes.
