Environmental Media Association's Awards Celebration

It's got to be tough promoting sustainable living in a town where, as Fred Allen famously put it; "You can take all the sincerity in Hollywood, place it in the navel of a firefly and still have room enough for three caraway seeds and a producer's heart." But, as the premier organization devoted to greening those Hollywood Hills, the Environmental Media Association is up for the task. The 2005 Environmental Media Assn. Awards showcased more than a caraway seed's worth of genuine concern for the planet in Tinsel Town.
Award winners included "I Heart Huckabees" for feature-film category; "The West Wing" and "King Of The Hill" won for episodic drama and comedy. "Lilo & Stitch" won for children's television and "Trippin'" was the clear winner for reality television. "Farming the Seas" took the documentary award. "The George Lopez Show" received the Turner Award for addressing population growth issues.
Al Gore served as keynote speaker and was very TreeHugger in his optimism, saying that we have before us "an opportunity to put people to work to build better futures for the next generation. The real question is whether or not we will accept the moral responsibility for what we are doing." He presented "Ongoing Commitment Awards" to Cindy Horn (wife of Warner Brothers President and COO Alan Horn) and Lyn Lear (married to Norman Lear). Ms. Horn and Ms. Lear founded EMA in 1989.
The celebrity guest list included the usual suspects: Ed Begley, Jr., Rob Reiner, Cameron Diaz, Daryl Hannah (in her sexy black biodiesel El Camino), Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart, Blythe Danner, Hank Azaria, and Alicia Silverstone. Also gracing the green carpet were Amy Smart of "Road Trip" and "Starsky and Hutch," and Wendie Malick from "Just Shoot Me." Perhaps the most unexpected guests (at least to one who follows green celebs) was Nicole Richie of "The Simple Life" and Paris-entourage fame, and "Extreme Makeover" plastic surgeon Anthony Griffin.

Is it just me, or does Nicole Richie really look like a walking corpse? I've been Googling to see if anymore pictures from the event, especially the red carpet, with all those hybrids, made it onto the web... slim pickings. Giving Tripin' an award? What's up with that? I'd give the Wild Boys an environmental award over Tripin' anyday!
