ALMOST: Klop Filtering Ashtray
by Justin Thomas, Virginia on 10.11.05
The Klop is an ashtray that has a plant positioned above it. The plant is used to filter the cigarette or cigar smoke coming up from below. Designed by Grégoire Vandenbussche, the ashtray is made with cermaics and recycled polypropylene. We'll give it points for looking cool and being made of recycled materials, but the whole thing seems unnecessarily harsh to the plant. :: Story via Yanko Design

Hmm... Do you know what's even better for the environment? Not smoking cigs at all! Kudos for the innovative thought though.
Is it possible that a plant could be used that cleans the air, like the Peace lily, Areca palm, Lady palm, Ficus alii, and the Golden pothos?
I quit smoking over a year ago, but I just like the way it LOOKS...cool looking.
um... harsh to the plant?
I don't believe a plant that I brought into existance has any rights. I can burn it, eat it, or subject it to cigarette somke, it has no feelings, and doesn't harm the environment.
I wish they made a car version. I could really use one for my suv
hum hum, they don't understand the whole aspect of this product, it's also for people that want stop smoking. Every cigarette you smoke make the plant sick! i'm very happy to see my product on this site!
When I read this article, I immediately bet my friend 5 bucks that the first comment was gonna be something like "Well, if people didn't smoke, that would be even better!"
Needless to say, I got my money. Of course, if the following were true, it also would be better: stop driving cars under 50 MPG; start using personal canvas bags for shopping; etc., etc. The point is that people are gonna smoke - at least it'll smell better and look nicer.
