safeway-after-3.jpgSafeway has announced that it will purchase 100% renewable energy to power the company's 270 fuel stations, 15 stores in San Francisco, and the Safeway corporate campuses in Pleasanton and Walnut Creek, California. It will become one of the largest buyers of green energy in the United States and an EPA "Green Power Partner." Under the partnership, Safeway has agreed to purchase 78 million kilowatt hours in the form of wind energy. This means it will become California's largest buyer of renewable energy. Safeway is also announcing a new organic product line marketed as "O" Organics in its stores. :: GreenBiz via TriplePundit

Good news! Now if they can stop requiring that their employees ask us if we need help out of the store, and calling us by name, they'd really be improving!

Good Afternoon:

I'd like to suggest a candy (Almond Joy - white chocolate flavored with lime) be carried at the Novato (CA) store on Ignacio Blvd. Where do I send the suggestion?

Thank you,

Great news for all of us who like products that are organic and do not have trans fats. How come you do not carry a rice bran oil?

I think that is great what Safeway is doing. It has been my store for years (aside from some items). I think their new line of organics are awesome. I have tried several options and they all taste WONDERFUL. Great job!!

I would like to know more about the certification of this organics line. I noticed it is O Organics (TM) meaning trademarked, but I have been trying to see what organic standards they adhere to.

Thanks.

Safeway was among the first corporate entities that worked to have tOrganic labelling dumbed down. That is, they thought the original laws were to stringent and worked to creat loopholes that they are now using for the O Organics line. Check out where most of these O Organics producst are produced. Outside the country where laws are non-existent or less stringent. Already two products in this line have been taken off the market because they were using unauthorized certification! Awesom, indeed!
