Wind Turbine to Become Architectural Icon?

The harbor of Las Palmas on Gran Canaria is long overdue for a regeneration of the harbor area, plus the island needs to resolve some energy issues. So Grimshaw Architects has come up with an offshore wind turbine design to take advantage of the trade winds. The structure will give the city its own architectural icon (after all, Santa Cruz on Tenerife has Santiago Calatrava's opera house) and welcome ships into port. A timetable for the turbine is undecided. Via Wallpaper
