SUV City: Short Animated Movie

Frank Giovinazzi of Car Buyer's Notebook sent us a link to SUV City, a short, home-made satirical animated film about the absurdity of big SUVs. Some people might find it funnier than others - we found it mildly-amusing - but, from personal experience, the underlying message about four common types of big-SUV buyers rings quite true. Drivers of big-SUVs that have no good reason to be driving a behemoth (which is 99.9% of them, to be frank - strangely, they all seem to think that they fall within that 0.1%) might not find the movie funny at all, but then, maybe they don't deserve to find it funny. Have a look and see for yourself (it's 8 minutes long). Just don't expect Hollywood-type production.
Funny, but...
The movie shows the "militant green mentality" as much as the "SUV mentality" - both of which are responsible for for the gulf between "Joe & Jane Public" and the committed environmentalists.
Under "the project," its stated that its hoped that SUV drivers will see themselves in the characters and re-think the reasons they drive their trucks. So, the snidely caracitured stereotypes in this film are supposed to establish a bridge of understanding? Somehow I doubt it. This production serves more as a self-congratulatory exercise in moral smugness for the greens; no new information, no insights, no "bridge" that any SUV driver would listen to.
I mostly agree. Despite the stated intentions, I see it more as purely satire than as a "try to convince the other side" thing.

this video is absolute trash, bigotry if you will, i drive a diesel truck not for the environment or the efficiency but because they produce a lot of torque for hauling my 35 ft 5th wheel, i also own an SUV and i am proud to say i get 14 mpg and i hate the fools riding their bikes on the side of the road, that is why there are sidewalks FOR YOU IDIOTS!!
