NYC Treehuggers: Opportunity to Help the Arctic

by on 08. 2.05
Take Action (events)

TH_treasureamer.jpg This is a little late for many of you, but if you're a New York Treehugger looking for something to do tonight, consider attending this fundraiser on behalf of the Treasure America Project. This group of writers, filmmakers, and activists is dedicated to spreading understanding about the negative impacts that drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would have -- both ecologically, and economically. Funds raised at the event will help support efforts to document current effects of drilling on arctic climates and economies, as well as drive PR campaigns aimed at the public and potential political allies.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to yaunyw[at]yahoo.com (or to request invitations to the upcoming fund raising events in Denver, Boston and Washington D.C.)
Suggested donations are Caribou level - $50 per person, Grizzly Level – $100, Tundra Level – $250+. Donations can be accepted online at TreasureAmerica.org or in-person at the event.

Even if you missed tonight's event, consider e-mailing anyway for news of upcoming fund raisers nearer to your area.:: Treasure America

I would recommend supporting drilling in ANWR if interested in the economy. And I suspect the trade-off in "environmental damage" would be negligible.

You guys really shouldn't refer to the Artic National Wildlife Refuge as "ANWR". That's a term that the oil industry coin in an effort move away from any allusion to the fact that it is infact a complete ecosystem teaming with life. Last week I was at a protest in front of the Whitehouse with US-PIRG and Freetheplanet! and we had to make sure that no one there refered to it as ANWR on their signs or in their speach as not to perpetuate this problem. Don't do what the oil companies want us to do, DON'T call the Artic National Wildlife Refuge "ANWR"

John-

Wow. I had no idea that an acronym could be so loaded :) I used the abreviation (As I expect that others do) because it was a convenient short way to refer to the refuge. I've changed the text of the post. Thanks for your enthusiasm.
