Grow-A-Note Recycled Cards

by Justin Thomas, Virginia on 08.17.05
Design & Architecture (recycled)

Grow-A-Note Recycled CardsGrow-A-Note cards are greeting cards with the seeds of wildflowers embedded in the hand-made, recycled paper. When the recipient is finished with the card it can be planted directly in the ground or the seeds can be sprouted before planting. The paper acts as a mulch for the seeds — instructions for planting and growing are included with each card. The cards are made in the U.S. using soy inks. They also make these packs of Thank You cards too. Available from Good Humans for $3.50 each.

There is a crafter in my area who makes these for Hallmark stores (along with gift tags, christmas ornaments, etc). It's an excellent idea, and they do make awesome gifts (that keep on giving)

These cards are very nice, and I love the idea.

Seed dispersal is an issue however. The US Customs, just like other Customs, check for seeds when you enter countries, especially islands. A few rogue seeds can seriously upset locat plant populations, introduce new plant disease etc. So I guess these cards should be marked 'for use inside USA only' :-)
