The Governor General on Composting Toilets

The Governor-General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson, Head of the Government and the Queen's representative, describes herself as “totally and utterly an evangelist for composting toilets." Her husband, author John Ralston Saul, hands out Sun-Mar brochures to the Bhutan Minister of the interior. Her Excellency goes on to describe the composting process. “what can I say, except that it’s deeply satisfying”.
All this from a wonderful article on toilet technology by Canadian writer Ian Brown in Canada’s Globe and Mail, which recently fenced itself off from the blog world by going pay-per-view. A shame, as it is written with style and humour, and makes such a good point. "Life in the wealthy, wasteful West is so much like a holiday, we need to be reminded of necessities. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, and you gotta go when you gotta go. Some things on this earth don't take a vacation."
