Urban Underground Farming

the Royal Canadian Mounted Police would look askance at this suspicious looking grow-op, but in fact they are growing rice, fruits and vegetables in a vault in Tokyo. A mix of light-emitting diodes, metal halide lamps, and high-pressure sodium vapor lamps as well as a sophisticated hydroponic and ventilation system are computer controlled. It is tended by urban young people who are aspiring farmers. There is a lot of irony here- Bank vaults converted to agriculture and young people who want to go to the farm, not get off it. ::Trends In Japan via ::Futurefeeder
