Mobile Phone helps make "wholesome food choices"
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 06.23.05
We step onto Gizmodo and Engadget turf with this one-The Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a camera phone that you aim at the bar code on your groceries and it tells you the nutritional content of what you are looking at, diarizes what you have purchased and calculates how long you have to exercise to work it off. Treehuggers shopping at local farmers markets know that the most wholesome foods do not come with barcodes but hey, they have time on their hands in Finland. ::Physorg

To see the clips, users must download a small application from Vivid's website that works on internet-enabled camera phones or PCs with a webcam.
At the store, the phone takes a picture of the bar code, which includes an embedded URL, and the phone's screen is redirected to a website that hosts the clips.
