Looking for Reader Questions for TreeHugger Jack Johnson Interview!
by TreeHugger on 06. 4.05

TreeHugger is psyched to be able to interview most excellent rock-star Jack Johnson mid next week. Does this mean we are big-time? Yikes. It turns out that Jack is quite TreeHugger so we are going to find out what causes he supports and how he feels about pushing sustainability mainstream (among other things). We would love to ask him a few questions from our readers! Please add your question below in the comments section and let us know if you want us to use your name. If we get some good ones, we'll ask away..

So you're from Hawaii. Alot of your songs deal with Hawaii, and your general image is that of the surfer/laidback guy from Hawaii.
This makes Hawaii an appealing place to go on vacation for many of your fans. Like, they've bought into the package deal of Hawaii as paradise — which it is, don't get me wrong.
I've actually met a few people here who say they came partially because of the way it seems to them from your songs/general image.
Considering that tourism in Hawaii is at present an inherintly unsustainable practice, and that it really messes stuff up there, how do you come to terms with that? I mean, how can you live with the fact that by being successful, you're working against the good of Hawaii, and actually making Hawaii less sustainable?

I’d like to know if your offsetting your Carbon output through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (or by some other means) while you’re on tour - It’s a simple, inexpensive and progressive way to have a positive environmental impact. How about the host for your website or the Recording studios you select, are they powered by renewable energy??
What’s your take on the environmental impact of the CD jewel case? Would you consider using a minimum waste and less plastic intensive packaging method on future albums?
Thanks!

Hey Jack - don't listen to all the negativity. I'm goin' to Hawaii in March '06, second time in my life. I'm goin' cause my wife and I want to go, as well as visit her brother - not because of your music, so don't sweat it. My wife and I love your music because of its relevancy. You have touched a nerve in us that needed to know there is music like yours out there. Thanks! We aren't 'treehuggers' either. The world continues to spiral downward - all we can do is what we can - and you're doin' it. Keep delivering music that matters...
Re: Darren
For the record, Jack Johnson's CD cases have always been cardboard. The only plastic is what's physically holding the cd. I was quite impressed by that.
Dear Jack,
How about a duet with Norah Jones, you both have such amazing laid back styles... i think you would compliment each other rather well. Anyways, just thought i would throw that out there... love your music, can't wait to hear the Curious George soundtrack.
Sincerely,

Dear Jack,
It is my best friends 17th birthday on February 28th and she is such a big fan of your's. I was wondering if I could possibly get a signed picture or poster of you for her special day. I realize that this website is not a store and I respect that, however given that her parents just split I wanted to do something for her to show how much I value our friendship my email address is xo_ch_xo@hotmail.com. Her name is Taylor. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely: Charissa
