Solar-Powered Web Sites by SolarHost

sh_top_logo.jpgYep, you can power your web site via the sun. SolarHost claims to be the only internet company that is totally powered by renewable energy. SolarHost maintains a large, privately-owned solar power system, comprising 12 high-density 110W panels. After the immediate AC/DC power needs are met, excess power gets stored in a massive battery bank. The owners say it would take five days of darkness to shut them down.

In case of catastrophic failure, a backup generator or grid power takes over in less than a minute.

Solarhost's use of solar energy may actually make their hosting service more reliable since they less vulnerable to power outages and blackouts.

A good thing from SolarHost. I am also starting a hosting company in the Netherland. Now I can not invest in Solar Panels to give me al the power, but I am using green power through the network. I hope that next year I have got enough to go also total Solar Powered! Another company in the Netherlands is using also solar energy to provide their power.

SolarHost is I think indeed the first which provides directly solar energy from the panels in there backyard :)

A while ago I ran across another company in the National Green Pages that was involved in solar hosting.

I think they're prices were a bit lower, if I recall correctly.
