Solar Umbrella

This "solar umbrella" is outfitted with 48 LED lights powered by a PV panel mounted on top of the canopy. Its something like treehugger John Laumer was envisioning but not as ambitious. Looks cool but I'm labeling this a definite "Almost" because the canopy is made of polyester coated with scotchgard (read about the problems with Scotchgard). It also seems to use one of those Ni-Cad batteries which are not environmentally sound. It would be great if someone built one of these using a NiMH battery, a quality solar panel and a non-toxic canopy. :: Solar Umbrella [by Justin Thomas]
