For those of you who loved This Into That's "Book Shelves", here's another cute little play on the same visual pun. Dutch designer Nicole Van Schouwenburg presents Selfshelf, a single book shelf that lets you stack up to 4 Kg of books in a "floating pile" on your wall. When we spoke to the designer, she was fairly sure that the plywood used is sustainably sourced. In any case, minimal use of materials and a simple, durable construction makes this a winner where embodied energy is concerned.

I hate to be stupid, but isn't it just a shelf?
It's a shelf in the barest sense of the word...if there is one.
Now, if it's so simple and minimal why does it cost $50+ Canadian?
...but it's a shelf featured on a thousand blogs this week which easily makes it worth $50 (this week).
but seriously, it's a witty design and it made me smile. the fact that it's so simple means it shouldn't be a tough diy project.
I saw these shelves at The Container Store today. $30 US.
