The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) man is a 7 Metre (23 foot) high giant composed of the estimated electrical and electronic waste that one UK citizen will discard in a lifetime- and we on this side of the pond are profligate compared to Brits. Its designed to "stun consumers and manufacturers into throwing away their ‘out of sight out of mind’ attitude to the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment."
The Project was developed by The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce which was founded in 1754 "to encourage the development of a principled and prosperous society." with support from Canon. The Weee man will be up until the end of May next to the Tower Bridge in London.
At the WEEE website, you can "measure your ecological footprint" by entering the equipment you use. The unit of measurement is the football pitch- UK tipsters, how big is that?
This is something to think about- this treehugger could build the right leg of this thing out of computer parts and old celphones in our basement right now. ::WEEE man via ::I4U by [LA]
