<a href=Earth Day.jpg" src="http://i.treehugger.com/Earth Day.jpg" width="214" height="131" /> The New York Society for Acoustic Ecology (NYSAE), a NY metropolitan chapter of the American Society for Acoustic Ecology, is hosting a ‘Listening Tent’ and other various activities at Earth Day 2005 in New York. First, we’ll tell you what this society is all about: it’s a membership organization that’s dedicated to exploring “the role of sound in natural habitats and human societies, and promoting public dialog concerning the identification, preservation and restoration of natural and cultural sound environments.” The NYSAE explores this aural experience specific to New York City. Something you’ve never really thought about, right?

Located on Vanderbilt Avenue outside the west side of Grand Central, the ‘Listening Tent’ event will include Guided Soundwalks which will focus on listening to the way in which one moves through an environment with complete attention to sound. Soundscape Interviews, which will be both audio and video, will take place inside the ‘Listening Tent’ and will be conducted with the public on sound and noise. A short audio and/or video timeline of the always-changing landscape will be produced. For more Earth Day exhibitors in New York, check out the Earth Day NY website. ::NYSAE [by KD]
