Seattle RainCatcher Cistern Pilot

TH reader Brad Hole saw our post on the Open Charter Cistern and let us know that a Seattle neighborhood is piloting a system of residential rainwater cisterns. Many older homes in the area have roof gutters that drain directly into the sewer system, which results in big overloads at the water treatment facility when a big rain hits. Which it has a way of doing in Seattle. Houses in the Fremont/Ballard area will have the chance for Seattle Public Utilities to install a system that drains rooftop rainwater into an above-ground cistern (in capacities ranging from 300 to 1000 gallons) instead. The RainCatcher then slowly releases the water into landscaping features, with overflow going into the sewer at a manageable rate. Thanks Brad! ::Seattle RainCatcher Pilot [by KK]
