Prototype: Hand-Powered Ipod Shuffle

by TreeHugger on 03.16.05
Science & Technology (prototypes)

TH_handipod_031005.jpg The way we see it two things are wrong with the world: People don't get nearly enough exercise. Personal electronics are generating larger and larger energy needs every year. There must be a way to solve these... Well, fret not crew. Philip Torrone of Hack-A-Day fame is on the case. His oh-so-crude prototype people-powered iPod shuffle marries one of those science fair crank dynamos with the tiny MP3 wonder in order to burn calories while jamming to tunes. We can only hope that his efforts result in a real product. :: Crank-Powered iPod Shuffle [by DM]

Have you guys at treehugger ever talked about the Kill-A-Watt monitor, or similar devices?

Given the discussion we've had in the last week or so about electricity and/or composting (etc.) I thought you might be interested in this:

I'd encourage you to do a better story than my lame one, on the same subject. Heck, if you want to host the same sort of calculators I can give you copies of the source.
