Mapwrap Re-Purposed Giftwrap

Remember when you were a kid and wrapped your mom's birthday present in the funny papers because you didn't know about wrapping paper? Oh wait, was that just her last birthday... Hmmmm. Well, the sentiment of reuse is great all the same. And Forest Saver Designs wants to help you keep up that reuse -- with a stylish twist. Their Mapwrap wrapping paper is made from real reclaimed New York City Subway or topographical Maps. Two 10" x 10" sheets are 3 bucks, so you probably want to reserve this for smaller presents. For the bigger stuff, Garfield works fine

I've been ussing subway maps as wrapping papper for YEARS. they are free and have a great design.
Yes, all NYC subway maps are free! Just ask the person in the booth for one.
If 100's of people in NYC ask for subway maps at the booths, isn't that just more of the same overuse of paper? They'll print more maps because they're running out faster .... the whole point is to use old (outdated) maps so they don't end up in the landfills.
If 100's of people go out and ask for NYC subway maps from the booth operators, that's just going to encourage the transit authority to print MORE maps.
Seems to me the point of using maps for wrapping paper (or statinary, envelopes, etc) is to cut down on the amount of landfill waster. The idea is to use old (outdated) maps so they don't end up in the garbage.
Lots of thriftstores around here give out Nat'l Geographics for free or for a dime, and they often have pull out maps. Same thing only cheaper.
couple of lessons from my family:
my dad always made us open our presents carefully
so that the wrapping paper could be used multiple times and my crafty mom (i have normal divorced parents) sewed simple bags out of fabric that we have used for years.
wow, that is an absurd price for old maps that are free to begin with.
