Leonardo DiCaprio and Global Green USA Push International Water Treaty
by TreeHugger on 03.28.05
Last week, Leonardo DiCaprio and Global Green USA President Matt Peterson spoke in San Francisco to encourage President Bush to sign an international treaty proclaiming clean water a human right. A tough sell, given W’s track record on international treaties and human rights, but with one-third of the global population lacking adequate drinking water or sanitation and 5 million deaths from waterborne diseases every year, the pitch needs to be made. DiCaprio screened a short film he co-produced, “Water Planet,” which will be available online from Global Green next month. ::ENN [by KK]

Hi,
I appreciate what Global Green USA along with Leonardo DiCaprio are doing for providing the people of this world the basic need for any human to survive.
The best would be if something substantial were to happen due to all these efforts!

Dear Mr. DiCaprio,
I had no idea the work you have done in environmental awareness until today. This is truly promising.
However, I notice that you are giving speeches and talking to President Bush, but given that most politicians (especially President Bush) really only care about getting elected or re-elected, you have to convince the American people that environmental issues are important and show them real cause and effect between the increased amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and the increased average temperature. In this world, politicians don't do anything until we are in crisis, and they are even ignoring the tsunamis, floods, desertification, and other environmental catastrophes that are already happening due to global warming. I suggest that instead of trying to convince President Bush to do something (which is never going to happen, he is in bed with so many corporations who's business it is to destroy the environment for profit), try convincing the American people to vote for someone who *is* going to care about saving the planet for future generations.
Note from my signature that I am from Toronto. I am not American, but I believe that our countries must work together to solve this problem. Environmental problems know no borders.
