Eco-Driver

Treehugger is impressed that the The Globe and Mail, Canada's National Newspaper, has started a weekly column called Eco-Driver by Dan Proudfoot, covering only automobiles that do better than 30 miles per gallon US, 10 L/100km planet. Quoting the author: "The ultimate test for a car maker, according to Eco Driver's credo, is engineering a car that combines superior fuel efficiency with acceptable practicality and performance- and can be sold at an acceptable price." Well said.
Read the first review, of the Kia Rio. Not everybody's idea of an ecofriendly wonder but it does appear to be cheap, cheerful and fuel-efficient. Given the circumstances and the medium (a "megawheels" section full of SUV ads) it is all a step in the right direction. :: Globe and Mail [by LA]
