The Aalto Chair Available at Herman Miller

This chair, like all of Alvar Aalto’s, is a classic. It has a practical design and is also environmentally sound. Available through Herman Miller this simple yet sturdy handcrafted seat is made from solid birch along with linen webbing. Birch is a non-tropical wood that ages beautifully and takes on a rich, honey color only adding to the character. Aalto saw furniture as a part of a harmonious interior. In fact, he described furniture and architecture as branches of the same tree and thus was known as a pioneer of modernism. One of the things we love about it is that two birch trees are planted for every one used in the production of Aalto furniture. ::Herman Miller [by KD]
