Proof positive. Organic milk is healthier

milk.jpgThe thing about scientific research is that it has got to have money behind it. If you want to prove that Sugar Pops are healthier than Cap’n Crunch, the Sugar Pops people fund the research. Their experts (the ones whose lab has been dedicated to the science of puffy round cereals) measure what needs to be measured and write up a report with the right results. It’s not always as evil as it sounds. But, if you’ve been wondering why there hasn’t been more research on the health benefits of Organic food, there’s your explanation. What, you think that Organic farmer’s have the cash to do it? No way. And the big companies who have gotten into the Organic business aren’t going to threaten their conventional products by backing studies that promote their new sideline that might turn out to be a “fad”. The good news is...

...there was a nice little study presented at the Soil Association (UK’s largest soil conservation, organic farming, and environmental protection NGO) Annual Conference, that came down solidly on the side of Organic milk. According to the research, cows farmed organically produced milk which was, on average, 50% higher in Vitamin E, 75% higher in beta carotene, two to three times higher in the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthine, and richer in Omega-3 fatty acids than conventionally produced milk. Frankly, I don’t care who funded it. ::BBC[by Tamara Holt]
