GreenerPrinter

greenrprintr.jpgFortunately there are quite a few printers out there prepared to use recycled content paper on their presses. However what sets GreenerPrinter apart from many is the extra effort they put into the process. Yes, they exclusively use stock from New Leaf Paper, which is predominately high post-consumer recycled content, mostly without chlorine belaching. Yes, they use vegetable based ink on a computer-to-plate press. But what was more interesting is distribution of the finished product. This is said to be 100% climate neutral due to their purchase of emission offset points from programs like Green Tags and Wind Builders. Such thought to the production and distribution process has seen the business certified by the Climate Neutral Network and as a Green Business by the Association of Bay Area Governments. ::GreenerPrinter [by WM]

Please take a look at Eco-Print, another green printer with practices just like GreenerPrinter, a more elegant name (IHMO), and the only one of its kind to my knowledge in the D.C. area. Eco-Print has been around since the 1980s.

Try Anderson Lithography (a Cenveo company). Their plant in Los Angeles Anderson is a CoGeneration power plant. This power plant produces 5.1 million watts of electricity, more than enough to supply all presses, pre press and all support areas of the plant. Also produced is enough chilled water to feed all twelve presses and air-condition our 170,000 sq. ft. facility. Environmental benefits of this system are that the volatile organic compounds (VOC's) that would normally evaporate into the atmosphere are instead captured and vented to the turbine where they are incinerated and rendered inert. What this means is that over 350lbs. a day of pollutants (VOC's) are rendered harmless instead of being released into our atmosphere.

After my recent print job they did an environmental impact report that showed that I could print 30x the quantity I did (think 30 years of annual reports) before I would reach the amount of VOCs that would be released in a single run using most conventional print processes.
