With some of the most delicate ecosystems in the U.S., it’s no wonder that the state of Florida has worked its butt off to create the Florida Green Lodging Program that encourages both hotels and guests to participate. If you’re headed to the sunshine state for vacation this year, you can check out the program’s Web site to find lodging options that meet water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and clean air practices criteria...
Unfortunately, there’s nothing in Miami that meets the group’s certification requirements, but there are several spots along the gorgeous white beaches of the pan handle, at the Disney resorts (in fact, Disney has its own “Environmentality” program), and in Gainesville, among a few other cities. It may not seem like a big such a big deal that a few resorts, including Hilton and Hyatt, are using refillable ink cartridges or turning the lights off in unused conference centers, but it all addsd up in the long run. The site also has some basic tips on what guests can do to be environmentally responsible when they travel. Hotels who wish to participate can also find guidelines for becoming certified here. ::Florida Green Lodging Locator ::Florida Green Lodging Certification Program [by MO]
