Handmade in Brooklyn, Soylab soy wax candles are adorable and good for your home. Unlike parafin wax, from which most candles that endanger indoor air quality are made, soy wax burns soot-free and is non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. And also unlike paraffin, a by-product of gasoline manufacturing, Soylab's soy wax helps support people who till the earth, i.e. all-natural soybean farmers. Plus, we love that groovy beaker that puts the "lab" in Soylab. In six delicious scents. $14 ::Buy Olympia [by MO]

Hi,
While I agree that non-petroleum products are environmentally (and perhaps politically) advantageous, I just wanted to point out that the proliferation of soy-based products can have potentially disastrous repercussions on our environment -- exponentially increasing soy production is causing incredible devastation of the Amazon in Brazil -- Brazil is about to overtake the US as the world's largest producer of soybeans, and a great deal of this soy production is coming about through deforestation in the Amazon to clear space for soybeans. Unless the soybeans being used for soy products are certified and verified as being harvested in a manner not harmful to the environment, it's not really safe to say that they're environmentally responsible.
Just another perspective,
Margaret
No brazilian rainforests were harmed in the making of soylab candles. Only American soybeans! :)
American soybeans like the ones my family grows, which we harvest in a totally environmentally friendly manner, and it helps put food on my table! thanks soylab!
Best candles I've ever used, and they look sharp too!
I am happy to inform you that soybeans are NOT destroying the Amazon in Brazil. I am an American living here in Brazil and can confirm that soybean don't even grow in the Amazon because the soil there is to acidic. Soybeans are grown in farm land in the middle of the country. Seeing how Brazil is now passing the US in soy and ethanol production, it's funny how this "mis-information" is being spread around by the American government. Please check your resources!
